The goal is to keep your total cholesterol level as low as possible.

 

Any excess cholesterol in the blood may be deposited in the arteries.

 

This build-up causes hardening of the arteries, causing them to become narrowed and blood flow to the heart is reduced or blocked, thus increasing your risk to coronary heart disease.
